Every year in the UK, thousands upon thousands of puppies are born because of the uncontrolled breeding of pets. Add to that number the offspring from accidental and unexpected litters, and the total becomes even more staggering. Yet every year thousands upon thousands of dogs are destroyed because there aren't enough homes available. If you're thinking about getting a specific breed dog you don't have to go to a pet shop or breeder, at least half the dogs that end up in rescues are pure-breeds. The simple fact is there are just too many dogs, both pure-breed and mixed-breed, and not enough homes available for them, too many companion animals competing for too few good homes is the most obvious consequence of uncontrolled breeding.

Not only will you be saving a life if you adopt your new companion through a rescue, if adopting from a reputable rescue your new dog will come to you, already neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed, de-flea'd and often microchipped. The dog will also have received a full veterinary check up and will have under gone a thorough behavioural assessment.
